Yardley man sentenced to prison after 13th DUI

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - March 26, 2013

Bucks County Judge Wallace Bateman says 47-year-old Yardley resident Lawrence Konyves is a "grave risk to the community." He rejected a plea that he be permitted to serve time partially in a county jail and partially in an in-patient treatment program. Konyves was sentenced this week in three DUI cases, two from 2012 and one from 2011.

Bateman says years of similar sentences had not stopped him from breaking the law. Prosecutors say Konyves previously managed to avoid state prison by manipulating the system. His attorney, Michael Parlow, says his client recently learned he suffers from bipolar disorder.

The Bucks County Courier Times reports Konyves' other DUI convictions date back to 1984.
