Woman charged with murder after Montco stabbing victim dies

UPPER MORELAND, Pa. - April 3, 2013

Candice Phillips is charged with fatally stabbing 54-year-old Myron McClinton inside the apartment the two leased together.

Police arrived at the Wellington Apartments in the 2500 block of Horsham Road at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday after a man called 911 saying he had been stabbed.

Officers found McClinton lying in a pool of blood in the master bedroom of apartment H24. He had been stabbed several times.

Prosecutors say McClinton told the 911 dispatcher, "I've been cut twice by a knife from, uh, by Candice Phillips. I'm bleeding real bad. . . . I think I might have, uh, artery damage. Uh, it's squirting out, I'm feeling weak."

Medics rushed McClinton to Abington Hospital, where he underwent surgery for wounds including lacerations to his arm. He was reported in stable condition Tuesday night, but later succumbed to his injuries.

An autopsy performed Wednesday found that McClinton died as a result of "sharp force injuries." The death was ruled a homicide.

Prosecutors say Phillips met officers at the entrance of the apartment complex when they first arrived Tuesday morning.

They say she told one officer, "He's upstairs. I did it, I did it." Police say she had blood on her face.

Investigators later found the knife used in the attack hidden between the bed mattress and box spring in the master bedroom of the apartment.

A neighbor who spoke with Action News on Tuesday said the two were often heard fighting in the apartment.

Prosecutors have not commented on a motive for the stabbing.
