SEPTA Powerball winner charged for threats

PHILADELPHIA - April 2, 2013

Joseph Byrd, 44, a SEPTA custodian who lives in West Philadelphia, was charged for the incident on February 18th.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office tells Action News that Byrd, who was on medical leave at the time, came to the SEPTA headquarters that day and "complained loudly about tax paperwork."

SEPTA police Chief Thomas Nestel says Byrd resisted police and threatened to shoot him in the face during the incident.

Byrd faces an April 15 preliminary hearing.

Byrd split last April's lump-sum jackpot with 47 other workers, but had remained with SEPTA.
