Clerk thwarts armed robbery of Subway shop in SW Phila.

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - April 2, 2013

It was all caught on camera.

The attempted robbery happened at 8:13 p.m. on March 24th at the Subway in the 2900 block of Island Avenue.

Surveillance video shows two men walking into the store and ordering sandwiches. One man pays for the order, and as the clerk opens the cash register, he pulls out a handgun and demands money.

The quick-thinking clerk closes the cash drawer and backs away before the suspect jumps over the counter to steal the cash.

When the man can't open the register, he orders the clerk back to the counter and tells her to open the drawer. But he flees with the other suspect before she is able to get it open.

Police have released the following descriptions of the suspects:

Suspect #1: Black male, 5'8", wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Suspect #2: Black male, 6', wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
