Kids can visit Cherry Blossom Festival for free

FAIRMOUNT PARK - April 13, 2013

Sakura Sunday is a highlight of Philadelphia's Cherry Blossom Festival. Events take place under a canopy of ornamental Japanese cherry trees that were first planted in 1926 at the Horticultural Center in West Fairmount Park, at Montgomery Drive and Belmont Avenue.

The festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m.

Among the activities, a performance of the Tamagawa University Taiko Drum and Dance Ensemble from Japan plus other live music, dance and martial arts demonstrations.

There will also be interactive crafts and activities such as calligraphy and origami, a Prettiest Pet in Pink Parade, where people dress their pets in fanciful costumes inspired by modern and traditional Japan, and Japanese festival foods of all kinds.

Admission for adults is $5, but chidren are free.
