Police say at 2:40 a.m., a 24-year-old male was sitting in his blue GMC Yukon in the parking lot of the Harrow Gate Shopping Center at I and Tioga streets near the V.I.P. Night Club when another man approached him and opened fire.
The victim was shot once in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say an armed security guard in the parking lot heard the shots and chased the gunman. Several shots were exchanged between the gunman and the security guard.
The security guard told police the gunman stumbled and fell to the ground before getting back up and running away.
Police do not know if the gunman was struck by the security guard.
The identity of the 24-year-old fatal victim has not been released.
