Flyers Wives give home makeover to NE Phila. family

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - April 21, 2013

"You don't know us at all and you come do all this stuff," said Morleka Sok.

Sok was struggling to find the right words, overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers.

Action News first met 17-year-old Chris several weeks ago. He is battling throat cancer.

"It's inspiring. More and more people are by me helping me get through this," said Chris.

The Flyers Wives Charity along with Michael's Way teamed up to make over the Soks' Northeast Philadelphia row home to give the family a boost.

There has been painting, wiring, and Sunday was the unveiling.

It now has a new master bedroom, updated bath, a living room sofa and more.

Rhonda McCarthy, the wife of the Flyers Assitant coach, picks up the story, saying, "The most important was Christopher's room. We wanted to do a theme style room that is kind of tailored to the particular child."

In this case it would seem the theme is cars - from wheel covers, to a tool chest night stand.

The theme also found its way into the cake that was served to a gathering of Flyers, their wives, and people from the Sok's neighborhood.

"It's really great - the best! When I look at it, it's new, everything is changed to what I never had before," said Morleka.

To a family going through tough times, it was a much needed boost of inspiration.
