47-year-old Lewis A. Maye Jr. is charged with Theft: Organized Retail Crime, Terroristic Threatening, Possession of Shoplifter's Tools, Shoplifting Over $1,500, Conspiracy Second Degree, and numerous traffic offenses.
Police say it was 1:00 p.m. Wednesday when Maye entered the Kohls store located at 401 Rocky Run Parkway.
According to investigators, Maye used a booster bag, a bag designed to evade store security sensors, to conceal over $2,500 worth of merchandise.
When a store employee confronted Maye he allegedly left the store and threatened to shoot the employee.
Maye then fled south on Concord Pike in a white 2007 Chevrolet Impala.
As the vehicle approached the intersection with Nichols Avenue, Maye attempted to pass southbound vehicles by driving in the northbound lanes. In doing so, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a sign for Art Fitness.
Maye ran from the vehicle to a nearby McDonalds where he was found hiding in the bathroom by police.
After his arrest police were able to link Maye to an April 6 incident where he and another male allegedly ran out of the same Kohls store with almost $2,000 worth of merchandise.
Maye was charged then released after posting $3,000 secured bail.
