Child struck by car at bus stop in Collingdale

COLLINGDALE, Pa. - May 6, 2013

The incident happened at the intersection of Claraden and Springfield roads.

Police say the 8-year-old girl was waiting at the bus stop when she darted into the street to get a stick from across the road. That is when she was struck by the vehicle.

Officers arrived to find the child lying on Springfield Road crying and bleeding from her mouth while being attended to by bystanders.

The girl was transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia having suffered leg and facial injuries. Her condition is unknown.

The driver of the striking vehicle, described only as a 63-year-old woman, started experiencing chest pains and was transported to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital for observation.

There are no charges pending against the driver.

The accident is under investigation.
