3 arrested for cemetery thefts in Bucks, Montgomery counties

BENSALEM, Pa. - May 6, 2013

Pamela Hummel, 30, of Morrisville and Jose Leon, 44, with no fixed address, were already in prison on similar charges.

Nathan Phillips, 29, of Bristol, surrendered on Monday.

According to investigators, the crimes happened between February and April at 10 cemeteries in Bucks County and five in Montgomery County.

They mostly targeted women at the cemeteries, police said, stealing their purses from unoccupied cars while the victims visited graves.

The crimes totaled about $5,000 in stolen cash and unauthorized credit card use.

Police say the three were identified after they reviewed surveillance footage from a Trevose gas station where the stolen credit cards were frequently used.

Bail for Hummel and Leon was set at $150,000.
