City remembers fallen firefighter Michael Goodwin

PHILADELPHIA - May 17, 2013

A memorial service was held for Battalion Chief Michael Goodwin.

Mayor Michael Nutter, family, friends and fellow firefighters were there for the service at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Kensington, Goodwin's long-time church.

Goodwin died while fighting a fire in the Queen Village neighborhood last month.

He fell from the collapsing third floor of a burning fabric store onto a section of roof that also collapsed into the burning building.

Goodwin had taken the test for a promotion to battalion chief shortly before his death. Officials said at the time the promotion was awarded posthumously, and that the promotion will enhance his family's benefits.

Goodwin is survived by a wife and two grown children.
