The incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. at 2nd and North Harrison Street in Wilmington, Delaware.Police said the driver of another car was critically injured when his car collided with the marked fire department SUB with lights and siren activated Wednesday night.
He was taken to Christiana Hospital and is listed in critical but stable condition.
A fire department official tells the News Journal of Wilmington that Battalion Chief John Hoban was treated at Christiana Hospital for injuries related to air bag deployment after the crash and released.
Battalion Chief Michael Schaal says Hoban was part of a team, which included three fire engines and a ladder fire truck, headed to a gas leak at the time of the crash.
Police officials say the accident is under investigation.
