Husband charged with wife's murder in Hatfield

HATFIELD, Pa. - June 10, 2013

Walid Mitwalli, of the 2900 block of Denbeigh Drive, is accused of stabbing his wife, Mona, to death in their home early Friday morning.

Investigators say it was shortly after 3:00 a.m. when Walid Mitwalli called 911, allegedly saying his wife came at him with a knife.

Then, according to police, Mitwalli allegedly told 911 operators that he grabbed the knife from his wife and stabbed her to death.

According to the district attorney's office, the investigation revealed the couple had been having numerous marital difficulties in the months leading up to the murder.

Police say Walid Mitwalli filed for divorce from his wife on April 9th. Two days later, the DA said, Mitwalli allegedly tried have his wife involuntarily committed to the county mental health system.

However, the DA said, doctors found she did not need treatment and was simply involved in a domestic dispute.

Then, on April 12th, Walid Mitwalli allegedly filed for a protection from abuse order from his wife. A temporary order was issued, the DA said, but was dismissed by a judge after a hearing on April 18th.

As the investigation continues, police say they are also searching for a DVR system which appears to be missing from the home. There was no word on if that missing DVR was connected to the murder.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Montgomery County detectives or Hatfield Township Police.

Mitwalli is being held without bail.
