Kids need schedules, even in summer

PHILADELPHIA, PA.: June 11, 2013

But a child psychologist says they really should be on some type of schedule.

Going from a structured world like school to no routines can cause a variety of problems, even upsetting sleep patterns, so that kids will be sleeping by day and up at night.

Child experts say it's good to put additional household chores on that summer agenda.

Dr.Joe Ausertman say, "One, it fosters, again, this idea of a schedule and responsibility. Two, it gives them a goal, or something to work for, especially if you're going to reward them with money or to give them prizes."

Dr. Joe Austerman also recommends limiting screen time to about 2 hours a day - and that includes television, computer, and handheld devices.
