Totally rad: Awesome Fest hits Philly

PHILADELPHIA - June 13, 2013

The 10-week totally tubular film and music festival dedicated to all things 80's has taken over Philadelphia.

The Awesome Fest features over 50 events including 30 outdoors movies.

The festival will show such classic radical hits as Revenge of the Nerds, The Princess Bride, The Goonies, Back to the Future, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Police Academy, Batman, The Neverending Story, Rocky III, Sixteen Candles, and Adventures in Babysitting.

Plus, 7 new films with 1980's ties will have their Philly debut during this festival including Prince Avalanche, Rewind This! and Downloaded.

There will also be events to compliment some of the movies: An 80's prom will follow the screening of Pretty in Pink, star of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure Alex Winter will be in attendance for his documentary Downloaded, and The English Beat will sing during a free concert right before the screening of Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

"We are doing a 25th anniversary screening for They Live with Rowdy Roddy Piper, one of my personal favorites. We have Charles Fleischer, the voice of Roger Rabbit for the official 25th anniversary screening of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, he's going to be doing a special comedy performance for us. And one of my favorites, Killer Clowns from Outer Space, we have the filmmakers here," Josh Goldbloom, founder of The Awesome Fest told Action News.

So where exactly can you go watch these totally cool flicks?

The venues include Parx Casino, Liberty Lands, Drexel Park, Eakins Oval, and the Trocadero.

The 80's fun kicks off with an opening celebration starring the Psychedelic Furs at the Troc in Center City Friday night.

So find those acid washed jeans, put on your leg warmers, tease that hair, phone home, feel the need for speed, do the truffle shuffle (you get the point) and get ready for the 10-week celebration of the 80's!
