Driver fails sobriety test after crash in Collingdale

COLLINGDALE, Pa. - June 20, 2013

Police say at approximately 9:38 a.m. Thursday, Collingdale Officer Matthew Rugh was on routine patrol in the area of the 1200 block of Macdade Boulevard when he observed an accident had just taken place between a Kia Sportage and a Chevy Tracker.

Officer Rugh saw two people were still trapped inside the overturned Kia.

An ambulance and rescue crews were dispatched to the scene.

The two people were rescued from the car.

They were transported to Chester Medical Center for their injuries.

A rear seat passenger who was able to escape the vehicle was transported to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital for his injuries.

Police say the driver of the striking vehicle had slurred speech and an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle.

The driver failed a field sobriety test at the scene.

Police say it was later determined the driver of the Tracker had a suspended Pennsylvania license for a DUI.

The driver was transported by ambulance to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital for his injuries.
