2 people shot inside moving car in Chester

CHESTER, Pa. - June 28, 2013

Shots rang out around 9:30 a.m. in the area of West 9th Street and Keystone Road.

Police say a red car was travelling down Keystone Road when someone opened fire on the vehicle.

The car sped down the street and slammed into a minivan with such force that the minivan hit a building.

The red car then flipped over, but landed back on its wheels.

A total of three people were in the car and two of those people, a man and a woman, were shot.

Both shooting victims were rushed to the hospital. The man was reported to be in critical condition.

Investigators say the male was in the passenger seat, and witnesses said it appeared he had been shot multiple times and may have been hit in the head.

No condition was available for the woman, but police say she was able to jump out of the car and was found around the corner.

No arrests have been made as the investigation into this case continues.

Meanwhile, following the shooting, many people were calling for a "state of emergency," which was put into place back in 2010.

Mayor John Linder said there was no plan to put a state of emergency back into place, but did say there would be increased police patrols.

"We're asking people to cooperate with police as they go about. Stay off the corners, if you have a license with you as you go out to drive your car, be ready to show it if you are stopped, cooperate with police," Linder said.

"If you have people in your community who you obviously know are criminals, and they perpetrate these crimes, call someone, call 911, call us and know us how we can help."
