Good Samaritan beaten by gang in Philadelphia

JUNIATA PARK - July 3, 2013

"I was hit... To my face," said the man who asked that we not reveal his identity, says it all started late Monday night when several young women started fighting in front of his home in Port Richmond.

He says one of the women, who seemed to be the primary target, was enduring a severe beating.

"I went to intervene... Carload of guys pulls up... I was the victim."

He says it was at least 4 men who brutally beat him. In the end, his right eye socket was crushed, his palate was shattered in 3 places, his sinuses cracked, and his jaw was broken.

"I guess I'm lucky to be alive," he told Action News.

The 62-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital and treated. Now, his doctors are waiting for the swelling to go down before they perform re-constructive surgery.

But he says the worst part is knowing that this was the result of trying to do the right thing.

"I'll think twice now," he said. "Look out for yourself too."
