That's what happened before his show in Hershey on Saturday when one of his fans pulled over to give the stranded cyclist a ride and realized the hitchhiker was none other than Matthews.
Emily Kraus tells WHP-TV in Harrisburg that she and her boyfriend helped him stow his bike on their bike rack and he got in their car for the rest of the ride.
Kraus says he invited them to dinner, signed their tickets, took them back stage and got them front row seats.
Kraus says he was a very humble guy and that she woke up the next morning still amazed that it happened.
