Police say someone opened fire on a man along Germantown Avenue near Wister Street shortly after midnight.
The victim, 45-year-old Gregory Smith from the 4300 block of North 16th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene.
So far there have been no arrests or motive for the shooting.
Investigators are reviewing video from nearby surveillance cameras.
