Fuel tank struck by lightning, Pennsyvania neighborhood evacuated

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (AP) - July 20, 2013

Cumberland County dispatch center coordinator Michelle Parsons says firefighters were sent to the scene in Hampden Township as a violent thunderstorm came through the area Friday afternoon.

Officials say a two million gallon tank, full of home heating oil, partially collapsed but did not explode.

Parsons said firefighters saw smoke as they approached and began hosing down the scene.

Officials say 300 people were offered shelter in a local school while firefighters contained the situation.
