Neighborhood sweats after power outage in Germantown

GERMANTOWN - July 19, 2013

It was just after 5:00 a.m. when a utility pole fell on Pulaski Avenue near Seymour, knocking out power to 1,000 PECO customers.

"It was just like 'Poof,' then the tree caught on fire," said Vanicka Henderson.

As the temperatures ticked up, many people decided to go outside in hopes of catching a breeze.

Others sat in their cars and turned up the air conditioning.

Most of the people who came outside were busy watching as PECO crews worked to restore power.

"We tried to pass time, play games, bring the baby out here because it's too hot in there for her to even breathe," said Kia Gibbons.

"It's too hot to go back inside. I already took, like, seven showers already," said Gordon Manalo.

That stretch of Pulaski was closed as work continued on Friday afternoon.

By 5:00 p.m. power had been restored to all but 30 homes.
