Police: Man dies after officers use stun guns

WILMINGTON, Del. - July 21, 2013

The driver of a vehicle refused to stop for officers Sunday night near West 25th and North Madison streets and police say officers pursued him until safety concerns prompted them to stop.

Minutes later, police say a witness reported a reckless driver and officers encountered a man fleeing the vehicle. Police say the man became combative and officers used stun guns twice in an effort to subdue him. Officers say the stun guns were ineffective.

The man was seated on the ground when police say he appeared to go into cardiac arrest. Officers began CPR, but the man was pronounced dead at Wilmington Hospital.

Police identified him as Deomain Hayman of Wilmington.
