Dozens of syringes found on South Jersey beach

ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK, N.J. - July 31, 2013

The beaches along the 10-mile island in Ocean County remain open and no other needles have turned up after the syringes were first spotted on Friday.

Environmental Protection Department spokesman Larry Ragonese tells the Asbury Park Press the syringes were of a type typically used by diabetics.

Ragonese says the wind and weather could have brought the debris from the New York harbor area.
