Veteran kicked off boardwalk because of service dog

NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. - August 12, 2013

Jared Goering and his wife, Sally, say a North Wildwood police officer issued them a summons because only guide dogs for the blind are allowed on the boards.

Goering, the victim of two explosions in Afghanistan, says he suffers from side effects from his injuries, but that his service dog helps him lead a normal life.

"Before I got my dog, I didn't want to do anything. I didn't want to go with my wife anywhere. I didn't like crowds. Then I got my dog and I was able to go out and do that stuff," Goering said.

The North Wildwood Police department says it has launched an internal investigation into this matter.
