Car, truck, motorcycle and bus – the Bay Bridge closure will not discriminate, even if you've built up goodwill by carpooling or taking public transportation.
"I guess I'm going to stay at home," said transit rider Zdeni Amadio. "Not worth it."
Transit buses will stop running across the Bay Bridge after 7:10 p.m. PT Wednesday until it opens back up next Tuesday morning. Instead, the buses will run back and forth in the East Bay to four BART stations. Riders seem ready for the change.
"Sometimes I take Transbay into the city. Sometimes I take AC transit to BART," said commuter Pam Mendes of Alameda. "Just expecting more of a crowd."
Casual carpoolers already dropped the formality. Now they're dropping their cars.
"There's nothing I can do. I have to take BART," said Theresa Huey, El Cerrito.
"Get up early. Maybe I'll try an hour or more earlier," said Michelle Payton of Pinole, who also plans to use BART.
BART will be running 24 hours a day during the closure with overnight trains on an hourly schedule serving 14 stations. But don't underestimate the desire by many to avoid it all.
"I'm going to call in sick," joked Alexis Douglas of Vallejo.
