Hot fashion trends for the fall season

PHILADELPHIA - September 19, 2013

We asked Philadelphia fashion expert Nicole Cashman to help us sort out the trends.

Women will be glad to know that most shoes are fashionable with flat heels. You might still want something "high" for dressy occasions, but everything else is flat. As in recent months, there's a mixing of patterns and textures.

And colors this season are generally dramatic and non-traditional. If you're expecting earth tones, you'll be surprised.

Emerald green has been declared the most important color this season, with rich blues right behind. The right gray will go a long way in your wardrobe, too.

Animal prints are big, but subtler than in recent months. Straight, skinny legs are the rule for men's and women's pants, if you can wear them.

"Statement" watches are still "in", and part of a broader trend toward accessorizing. In fact, you'll probably choose to dress "simple" and then indulge on accessories.

For women, it could mean a prominent handbag. Some designers recommend carrying two, but that's extreme for most people. But layers of jewelry will work.

Eco-friendly is also "in", and that's prompted a new wave of wooden sunglass frames.

For men, logo sports attire remains strong, and, given color trends, there's just no better tome for Eagles green.

Here's a list of the looks we were shown, and where to buy everything.

WOMENS
Fall 2012 Trend 1: Emerald & Leopard
We are loving jungle fever this season with the bold and cozy sweater jacket from Pileggi Boutique. Wear this piece alone or with a straight leg skinny jean for a look that is both on-trend and comfortable. Add a plain black top to keep the look sleek and sexy. The pantone color of the year, emerald was and is everywhere this year! The lively, radiant, lush green is perfect for a pop of color accessory, such as this on-trend square cross body bag from Vi Vi G. Shoes or a fun, bold necklace. Top off this fun look with a wide-rim hat that according to Elle Magazine is here to stay and some black combat boots with gold accents.

As well as these knee-high boots, that are certainly coming back in some great muted hues. This suede and leather black vest from Denim Habit is also a huge trend this fall. Blues are back in a big way this fall. This bold yet meditative color is classic for a high-styled fall look. Plus, never quite leaving the scene for the past few seasons, leather is once again trending. We are seeing lots of leather and suede detailing for every occasion. For a perfect day to night look, throw on these black pointy, single sole heels with a thick ankle strap- the next big thing in dress shoes- from Macy's Center City. Add some gold accents such as these black and gold stacked bangles, a statement drop necklace and gold hoops from Bernie Robbins.

These Eagles vests from Michelle & Ness are timeless, yet paired with the right jeans and high top sneakers, are straight from the runway. A simple t-shirt like the one on our model and olive green sneakers complete this relaxed look. We are also loving these wooden sunglasses from Kembrel that are both locally made and eco-friendly.

Fall 2012 Trend 2: The Bomber Jacket
Men's bomber jackets are as classic as they are versatile. Fashionbeans reports that bomber jackets are THE key men's outerwear silhouette for 2013/14. This luxe bomber jacket from Kembrel will easily take your look from day to night. We paired our bomber jacket with a fun 611 collared shirt, dark navy corduroy pants and finished off the look with a pair of Timberland boots for a timelessly cool look. Leather timepieces are a continuing trend that doesn't seem to be heading out anytime soon, think of them as an investment piece. Bernie Robbins Jewelers is our go-to for the best of the best.

Fall 2012 Trend 3: Monochromatic
A fresh take on the color blocked stories we saw last spring, monochromatic color palettes showed up in quite a few menswear collections for fall. Checkered has also emerged as a key trend this fall season. We were inspired to pair this grey plaid blazer and its purple accents with this patterned button down from Macy's Center City. Make sure to keep accessories within a monochromatic color palate, as we did with this matching purple tie, pocket-square and 611 socks. Plus, don't forget about a classic timepiece such as this one from Bernie Robbins. We finished off the look with grey suede high-tops for an over-all dapper ensemble.
