Philadelphia police officer struck by fleeing car in Hunting Park

PHILADELPHIA - September 27, 2013

It happened before 8:00 p.m. Friday in Hunting Park.

Police say officers spotted a stolen car and were approaching the vehicle when the driver suddenly took off, hitting a bicycle patrol officer.

The suspect then lost control and crashed the car into a cleaning business at 9th Street and Erie Avenue.

Both the officer and the driver were taken to Temple University Hospital.

The officer was not seriously injured and was held for observation.

The 30-year-old driver was being treated for injuries said to be non-life-threatening.

There was no immediate word what charges might be filed.
