Ocean Co. cemetery manager charged in theft scheme

TOMS RIVER, N.J. - October 1, 2013

Prosecutors say 64-year-old Alan R. Grote, the day-to-day manager of Whiting Memorial Park, had devised a scheme through which he diverted money due to the cemetery over the past five years.

Grote would allegedly offer cemetery customers a discounted price if they made their payments to his company, Cash Management Consultants. According to authorities, Grote would then provide the paid for services, however, no documentation of the transactions was ever made.

Investigators say that so far they have identified approximately 100 incidents where Grote diverted approximately $76,000 to his company.

Grote was arrested on Monday at his Franklin Lane residence in Whiting. He is charged with second degree Theft by Deception.

Authorities are asking anyone who paid for services at Whiting Memorial Park Cemetery to Grote and his Cash Management Consultants Company to contact investigators at 732-929-2027.
