Larry Bowa returns to Phillies as bench coach

PHILADELPHIA - October 8, 2013

It was one of a number of coaching moves announced by the Phillies.

Bowa, 67, had been an in-studio analyst for the MLB Network for the past three years. He played for the Phillies from 1970 through 1981, was the third base coach from 1988-1996 and was the manager from 2001 through 2004.

He went on to coach for the Angels, Mariners, Yankees, Dodgers and Padres.

Also joining the coaching staff is former Phillie Pet Mackanin, who served as the bench coach under Charlie Manuel from 2009-2012. He will now be the third base coach.

Steve Henderson will return for his second season as hitting coach, the Phillies said, but Wally Joyner will not be back as assistant hitting coach.
