Man charged in Christiana Mall parking lot robbery

The Delaware State Police have arrested a Newark man in connection with robbery at the Christiana Mall.

The incident occurred around 9:41 p.m. Saturday as a 39-year-old woman was walking with her 10-year-old daughter, 19-year-old daughter, and 2-year-old granddaughter from the J.C. Penny store to her car.

Police say a male suspect, later identified as Donald Michalkiewicz, approached her from the back, grabbed her purse and dragged her to the ground.

Michalkiewicz then began to run across the parking lot with the victim's purse.

Two mall security officers patrolling in the area saw the suspecdt running and were able to chase him down and apprehend him.

Michalkiewicz was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a stolen GPS system.

He has been charged with Robbery, Assault, Theft, Receiving Stolen Property, and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. .

The 39-year-old victim's purse was returned to her with all the contents intact.

She was transported by medics to Christiana Medical Center where she was treated for an injury to her hand.
