NJ fire dept. treasurer admits stealing $300K

TRENTON, N.J. - October 17, 2013

Lisa Ayers served as treasurer of the Mine Hill Fire Department. The state attorney general's office says she was responsible for paying the department's bills and submitting copies to the township for reimbursement. She was accused of using the department's checking accounts to make payments on her mortgage and car loans and to herself and her husband.

The checks were written between 2007 and this year. The total amount reached more than $330,000.

The state will recommend for the 40-year-old Ayers, who lives in Mine Hill, to be sentenced to five years in state prison when she's sentenced in January.
