Saving with 6abc: Save a bunch on lunch

A new study shows Americans spend roughly $1,000 a year going out to lunch. Men spend more -- $21 a week compared to $15 for women.

Here are some tips to put that money back in your pocket.

1. Bring leftovers
This should be obvious, but for many it isn't. If you make a little extra when you are cooking dinner or preparing meals over the weekend, you can save hundreds by packing it up for lunch.

2. Think Frozen
Stock up on the frozen lunch inventory at club stores like Costco or Sam's Club -- even try big box retailers like Walmart.

3. Lunch at the grocery store
This will save you half of what you would pay at a sandwich shop! Check out the fresh grab-and-go options like soup and pre-made sandwiches.

4. Don't forget to go digital
Before heading to the supermarket, check out apps like Grocery IQ by coupons.com.
