2 burned by acid at suburban Philadelphia plant

FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. (AP) - November 8, 2013

Officials in Bucks County said the workers came into contact with nitric acid shortly after 9:30 a.m. Thursday during a chemical reaction at the Hiossen Inc. plant in Falls Township.

Fire marshal Richard Dippolito said the workers were burned on the head and arms and taken to the Trenton, N.J. campus of Capital Health System.

Their condition wasn't immediately known, but Mike McClellan, chief of the township and U.S. Steel fire companies, said the injuries didn't appear to be life-threatening.

McClellan said the workers were mixing chemicals into a five gallon pail when it exploded. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
