Hoping to get high on profits

TUMWATER, Wash. (AP) - November 19, 2013

Yesterday, Washington state began accepting applications to grow, process and sell legal marijuana.

Hundreds of people applied in just a matter of hours.

Applicants must undergo background checks, be residents of the state and have their business areas inspected.

They also have to pay a non-refundable $250 fee.

The state says it will cap the number of pot stores at 334 statewide, with 21 in Seattle.

Last year voters passed a ballot measure legalizing pot.
