Emmaus man charged in fatal beating of neighbor, 70

EMMAUS, Pa. - November 21, 2013

Alexander Octa Roscioli was charged in connection with the August 30th incident at the apartment building in Emmaus, where Roscioli and the victim, 70-year-old John Sweeney Sr., both lived.

The two men got into an argument around 2:30 a.m., and it escalated into a physical fight, police said.

Roscioli, 22, of 314 S. Broom St., punched and kicked Sweeney after Sweeney hit Roscioli with a plastic hockey stick, according to court documents.

Sweeney was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he died the next day. An autopsy showed he had a skull fracture, broken ribs and a cerebral hemorrhage. The coroner ruled his death a homicide.

Roscioli faces charges of aggravated assault and involuntary manslaughter.
