Water main break causes gas leak in North Philadelphia, officials say

PGW crews worked to stop a gas leak that was caused by a water main break in North Philadelphia Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. Sunday on the 3200 block of North Etting Street.

A resident who smelled gas called PGW to the scene.

Arriving PGW workers soon discovered a gas main leak and called firefighters to the area.

Arriving fire crews evacuated residents.

Fire officials tell Action News a water main break caused the gas main to break as well.

8 homes were evacuated, but the 13 adults and one child were able to return to their homes by late morning.
