Illegal stimulant intercepted at Philadelphia International Airport

PHILADELPHIA - December 4, 2013

U.S. Customs officials intercepted three air parcels at a mail facility. Each contained an evergreen shrub called Khat.

The plant, bound for Connecticut and Illinois, was hidden inside rolls of fabric and paperboard.

The stimulant, popular in Africa and the Middle East, had a street value of more than $33,000.
