Sinkhole opens up on Northern Liberties street

NORTHERN LIBERTIES - December 5, 2013

Larissa Derzhko, who lives on the 900 block of North Randolph Street, tells Action News the issue started last Friday when she noticed she has no water.

The Water Department told her that her lateral line was leaking, that it would cost her $2,500 to repair, and that crews would come out and make the fix. She said OK but tells us the Water Department kept putting the work off.

Then this morning, neighbors heard hissing before the street opened up, pulling a pickup truck down inside the large hole.

The Water Department says homeowners are responsible for lateral lines, which are the lines that run from the water main to the house.

Neighbors tell Action News that back in May there was a sinkhole on the same block.

Crews from the Water Department are on the scene.
