Driver facing drug charges after crash with police cruiser in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. - December 13, 2013

The accident occurred around 11:00 p.m. at the intersection of West 2nd and Clayton Streets.

Authorities told Action News that a 1999 Honda Civic coupe driven by 34-year-old Ian Thomas struck a police cruiser broadside and then careened into a parked vehicle.

Thomas then allegedly got out of his car and attempted to discard 19 bags of heroin and two hypodermic needles.

Officers took him into custody and located a small bag of crack cocaine on his person.

A 27-year-old officer inside the cruiser was treated for a neck injury at Wilmington Hospital and released.

Thomas is charged with Possession of Heroin, Crack Cocaine, and Drug Paraphernalia. He was arraigned and released after posting $150 secured bail.
