It happened when the troopers witnessed a drug transaction with a pedestrian and a passenger in a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix around 8:20 p.m.
Police stopped the vehicle in the 2900 block of North Market Street and ordered the passenger, 35-year-old David Rhoades, to get out of the car.
Police say Rhoades put up a violent struggle when police tried to handcuff him taking two troopers down to the ground before wrestling with one trooper who attempted to use his taser.
Rhoades was restrained, handcuffed and arrested after troopers discovered 104 bags of heroin in the jacket he was wearing.
Both troopers were treated at Wilmington Hospital, one with hand and leg injuries, the other with a hand injury sustained during the struggle.
Officials say Rhoades was also treated at Wilmington Hospital with minor injuries, but was admitted for a pre-existing medical condition.
Rhoades is charged with possession, assault and resisting arrest. He also facing a warrant for probation violations.
He is expected to be arraigned when he is released from the hospital.
