For over 35 years, the AoA has provided home and community-based services to millions of older persons through the programs funded under the Older Americans Act. You may have heard about our home-delivered meals programs or nutrition services in congregate settings, or transportation, adult day care, legal assistance or health promotion programs. If you have visited a nursing home, you may have talked to one of our Ombudsmen, who provide an on-going presence in long-term care facilities, monitoring care and conditions and providing a voice for those who are unable to speak for themselves. ACL - Administration of Communal Living
All Americans - including people with disabilities and older adults - should be able to live at home with the supports they need, participating in communities that value their contributions. To help meet these needs, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) created a new organization, the Administration for Community Living (ACL). ACL brings together the efforts and achievements of the Administration on Aging, the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and the HHS Office on Disability to serve as the Federal agency responsible for increasing access to community supports, while focusing attention and resources on the unique needs of older Americans and people with disabilities across the lifespan. New Jersey Department of Aging Services
The Division of Aging Services administers federal and State-funded services and supports and makes it easier for seniors and caregivers to live in the community as long as possible with independence, dignity and choice. The agency receives federal funds under the Older Americans Act whereby it serves over 500,000 individuals and is the focal point for planning services for the aging, developing comprehensive information about New Jersey's older adult population and its needs, and maintaining information about services available to older adults throughout the state. According to the 2010 U.S. Census data, New Jersey has 1.6 million individuals age 60 and older - an increase of 15 percent since 2000. More.
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) is a private, non-profit organization serving as Philadelphia county's Area Agency on Aging since 1973. One of the region's largest non-profit organizations, PCA's mission is to improve the quality of life for older Philadelphians or people with disabilities and to assist them in achieving their maximum level of health, independence and productivity.
