The shooting happened in the 5700 block of Wayne Avenue just after 1:30 a.m.
Police arrived to find a man covered in blood from a head wound in the Pathmark parking lot.
Witnesses say the victim tried to get into Victors Tavern across the street but was turned away.
He was rushed him to Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The incident remains under investigation.
