Feds OK steel sea wall for Mantoloking, Brick

MANTOLOKING, N.J. (AP) - January 2, 2014

Bids are being sought as of Thursday on the $36 million project in Mantoloking and Brick.

The project will resemble a smaller steel wall that was erected after the storm cut a channel through the barrier island in Mantoloking, washing out Route 35 and depositing a house on the Mantoloking Bridge.

A massive emergency repair project was undertaken to rebuild the highway and fortify the area.

The Federal Highway Administration will pay 80 percent of the cost of the project, with the state paying the rest.

Work is due to start next month.
