Mom and daughter with Down syndrome bond in special photos

Photographer Emer Gillespie and her 11-year-old daughter have created a moving portrayal of their relationship in the photo series "Picture You, Picture Me." The project began several years ago when Laoisha, who has Down syndrome, asked if she could take a photo with her mom's camera; the two now take turns photographing each other in side-by-side scenes. The process has helped Laoisha develop her verbal and visual skills, and has been an invaluable bonding experience for mom and daughter.
