It happened around 9:30 Saturday night on the 1600 block of South Dover Street.
Police confronted an armed suspect who did not drop his weapon. Officers fired, striking the man in the arm.
The suspect was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. No word on his condition.
No police officers were hurt during the incident.
Authorities were able to recover a weapon.
Police continue to investigate.
