2 arrests in connection with attack of Wilmington woman

WILMINGTON, Del. - January 16, 2014

Charged are 19-year-old Jermaine Booker of the 3200 block of N Vanburen Street in Wilmington and 20-year-old Kendall Briscoe of the unit block of Hillside Avenue, Newark, New Jersey.

It was around 9:40 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, when officers arrived at the victim's home located on the 100 block of Cambridge Drive in Wilmington's Windsor Hills community.

Investigators say a man came home and found his 61-year-old wife unresponsive.

The woman appeared to have been assaulted, having sustained injuries to her head, face and upper torso. Police say a sharp edged weapon was used.

The victim remains hospitalized in serious condition. Investigators have not been able to question the victim due to her condition.

The attacker also took a vehicle from the home - a dark gray 2010 Lexus HS 250.

Then on Saturday January 4th officers in Newark, New Jersey stopped a vehicle with the same description after noticing it being driven erratically. Booker and Briscoe were allegedly inside the vehicle and both were taken into custody.

Police later learned that the vehicle was the same Lexus that had gone missing after the assault. The Delaware license plate had been removed from the vehicle and replaced with a New Jersey license plate.

At the time both Booker and Briscoe were charged with conspiracy and theft of a motor vehicle. Booker was also charged with Providing a False Statement to Law Enforcement.

On Wednesday, January 15th, New Castle County Police charged Jermaine Booker with additional charges of Attempted Murder, Home Invasion, Robbery 1st and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony. They say he is the only suspect placed in the Wilmington home invasion and beating, although there may be other suspects.

Police say they believe the assault was a random act.

Anyone who saw Booker or Briscoe between January 2nd and January 4th is urged to call police at 302-395-8100.
