Fake utility worker robs elderly couple in Delaware

NEW CASTLE, Del. - January 24, 2014

It happened Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Police say a man who claimed to be assisting the water company with a contamination issue gained access to a home in the 800 block of Clayton Street after the residents let him in.

The couple allowed the man to walk through their home.

After he left, the woman noticed cash missing from her purse and called police.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 30 years of age with blue eyes. He was wearing a blue ball cap with "CD" written on it.

Authorities urge residents to not let anyone inside their residence without proper credentials and identification.

Police or the company the person is representing can be contacted also to verify the person's identity.
