1. FREE CREDIT MONITORING
Target is offering customers a free year of credit monitoring from Experian, valued at $191, after hackers stole credit card and personal data of 110 million customers during the holiday shopping season, according toTarget.com.
Target will offer all U.S. customers one year "a complimentary credit report, daily credit monitoring, identity theft insurance where available, and access to personalized assistance," according to a release.
Sign up at CreditMonitoring.Target.com before April 23. You'll get an email from Target with an activation code to use at ProtectMyID.com. Register by April 30. The service normally costs $15.95 a month without the code.
The Minneapolis-based retailer made the offer after it reveals Friday that the an unauthorized data breach on Nov. 27-Dec. 15 may affect an additional 70 million customers. Stolen customer data includes credit card information, names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses. Originally, Target placed the number affected at 40 million.
Target also reminded customers they have no liability for the cost of any fraudulent charges arising from the breach.
