Police say they are investigating a reported home invasion, during which a man and woman were bound and beaten inside their North Philadelphia home.

The incident happened just before 11:00 p.m. Thursday as the victims arrived at their residence on the 400 block of Venango Street.

Investigators say five males with masks and guns entered the home and handcuffed and ducted the man and woman.

The suspects proceeded to pistol whip the male victim, striking him three times in the head.

The female victim was able to get free and call police.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victims to Temple University Hospital, where the man was admitted in critical condition. There is no word on if the female was injured.

Police say it is not clear at this time if anything was stolen from the residence.

The search for the suspects continues.
